The Hanasaki Troupe & The Hanasaki Theatre

    The Hanasaki Troupe

The Hanasaki Troupe was started in 2014 by Daichi Hanasaki. It’s clear that Daichi was inspired by stylized, contemporary circuses like Cirque Du Soleil. Shows are character-driven and have a storyline throughout each individual performance, with bits of comedic relief in between the more dramatic acts.

What makes the Hanasaki Troupe different from other shows, and impossible for them to be performed outside of Manta Carlos, is that they put an emphasis on the beauty of everyone’s unique powers. Performances are, first and foremost, about stunning visuals that open up the imagination of the audience, and this is accomplished with the help of every performers’ (and some backstage hands’) unique abilities. Combined with singing, dancing, acrobatics, and other performance arts, every show is a celebration of magic and abilities.

Show typically run for a year or a year and a half before they end and the troupe begins working on the next.

The Hanasaki Troupe perform two shows per show day: a matinee and an evening show. They perform during weekends, as well as on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Being part of the Hanasaki Troupe is a full time job, and requires intense discipline. Some members of the Troupe remain for multiple shows, while others may perform in one show run before moving on to other things.

    Past Hanasaki Troupe Performances:

Sakura No Uta: The first Hanasaki Theatre show. Inspired by Japanese artwork and culture. 2014.

Step And Step And Step: A show inspired by the works of M. C. Escher; a mindbending, surreal show. 2014-2015.

Pop Up Fantasy: After some criticism that the shows were often too scary or intense for children, Haru took up the task of creating a colorful, creative show that was geared toward the imaginations of children, but still enjoyable for adults as well. The show is based on the idea of a pop-up fairy tale book coming to life. 2015-2016.

A Celebration of Everyone: The Hanasaki Troupe’s most popular show to date, and most ambitious. The show is focused on celebrating the diversity of Manta Carlos, with various species on stage going from acting out mundane acts to transitioning into their incredible show acts. 2017-Current.

A Celebration of Everyone will have its last show in May, before Daichi closes it up for good and begins preparations for the next big show in the fall.

The Theatre is designed for the kind of shows Daichi performs in mind, with structures for acrobatics, large scenery pieces, etc, but it is open for rentals for other performances as well--music performances, plays, stand up comedy, and such.

The Theatre seats an audience of 300, including special seating for species that may not fit in traditional theater seats.
