Being in the forest was relaxing to Lynn. The sounds and smells, the bugs and animals; everything was fairly relaxing. Lynn always felt like nature was apart of him. It was sorta like a homey feeling he got every time he was outside and in the forest.
He felt even more relaxed because today he was taking a walk with Mr. Henghai aka Nature Dad! Which sorta made him more comfortable.

"Thanks for letting me come along Mr. Henghai! I sorta needed this a bit."

"Honestly, it's no problem at all. I wanted to go looking for some magical plants, and I'm always happy to help a family friend." Not to mention, Henghai felt obliged to. Lynn wasn't an elementalist. Henghai already knew that. But he was a friend of nature, and that was enough to make them allies. And plus, he was an easy kid to be around.

Henghai tangled his fingers behind him as he trotted alongside Lynn. Like usual, he was in his kirintaur form, with his tail swinging contently behind him. Paired with the grass beneath, his tail looked like a branch following behind the two. He wondered if that confused the animals and bugs that occasionally followed Lynn around.

"A family friend? Am I a great friend?" He asked cheerful as he skipped over a fallen branch. He seemed waved at a few squirrels and other animals that they passed by. This was fun but he had something to ask. So Lynn twirled around to face Henghai, frowning as he did so. He opened his mouth but wasn't really sure how to word his question so he just twirled back around.

Then again he had to say something so....
"Uh...how is it like being able to shift and stuff?"

"Of course you are. If you weren't, I wouldn't call you a family friend."

When Lynn turned towards him with a frown, Henghai wondered if he said the wrong thing. Usually, being called a family friend was a thing to take pride in. It meant you were trusted to make an entire family happy with your presence. That you could come over to their house uninvited and hang around like family.

Then Lynn asked about shifting. Henghai paused for a moment before falling into a fit of laughter. "For a moment there, I thought you were unhappy about being a family friend."

No, no. Lynn looked serious about this. Henghai swallowed his laughter before responding in kind. "Hmmm... It feels like... Have you ever had an out-of-body experience before? It feels sort of like that for me. Where my body is scattering, then coming back together in a new way. I've heard people say its relaxing because it's like you're floating in a void and coming back to the real world refreshed. Personally, I've always found it discomforting." Shifting made him vulnerable. He couldn't understand how others could just shift out in public, where anything could interrupt and permanently disfigure them.

"That's how my people work, however. We're made of magic, so it's much easier for us to rearrange ourselves. I've heard shifting can be very painful for some species. I think it's about how in tune you are with the magic shifting you and how different the change is. Like I've seen some werewolves having painful shiftings because their bones are rearranging themselves without any kind of pain nullifying."

"Unhappy?" Lynn started laughing and just went to hug Henghai. He was actually kinda a bit grateful for them really. "Nooo, I am happy! You guys are like..."
Lynn wasn't really sure how to explain it properly. He was sure there was a right term for it, like fifty percent sure. "Family but not family!" He giggled and released Henghai from the hug so he can resume his skipping.

Henghai's response to his question was...confusing. He never had an out of body experience or well anything he described. Did Lynn need to feel that? Was that an important part he was missing?
"Well I am a demigod! Loki shifts a lot so I thought I believe I can! Loki just...never had time to teach me. It was either music or boring training...." Which he was now regretting a bit.

"I just wanted to know how the process goes? Um...how to shift and stuff?"

Without missing a beat, Henghai accepted Lynn's hug with one of his own. Family friends may not be as important a status as it was back home, but that's how the outside world was. Henghai would just need to deal with it and appreciate what he got.

Really, Henghai was a bit more concerned about how Loki trained Lynn. Lynn may not have been interested in shifting before, but it was smart to cover all bases in case your child took after you. You never knew, especially with a father who was well-known for shape-shifting. But gods were fickle people. Loki probably had many other children to be concerned about too.

"I'll try to give some general advice from what I've seen of other shifters, since I can't say how it should work for you. Meditation was what helped me the most. It taught me to relax my body, let go of my physical self, and solidify an image of what I wanted to be to fill the space caused by my lack of body. It may be boring, but you're a musician. I think putting on some instrumental music may help you clear your head and visualize what you want to be."

Lynn nodded and listened to Henghai carefully. He should have brought a notepad or something to take a bunch of notes but he was probably fine without one. It was good Henghai was helping him now even if Lynn wasn't getting some of it right off the bat. "Meditation?"

Huh. Lynn never thought about that. Everytime he tried he just was trying to force a change which never worked out. Henghai also having some music playing might also help so that was another thing to note.

"So you visualize an image of yourself as something else? You don't force the change and just let the change happen on it's own?"

"I do force the change, but... it's like exercising a muscle. After a few times of forcing yourself to shift, it becomes as easy as breathing. Part of the process is automatic, but I need to keep it going or else it'll stop mid-way through. That's how I end up with a partially shifted body."

To demonstrate, Henghai raised his left hand. After taking a few long breaths, his hand glowed and became a dark green and malleable substance. As it changed shape, Lynn could see that the fingers were forming together, and soon, the hand was shaped like a hoof of a deer. Soon after, the hand went back to being a solid and its normal coloring.

"If I continued and let the shifting reach the rest of me, I would have gone into my full animal form."

Lynn tilted his head to the side. Henghai forced it. Well the way it was describe easy as breathing and exercising a muscle. Those were two things Lynn could try with his shifting. Lynn watched in amazement as Henghai began to shift his hand. He paid close attention to everything Henghai was doing. It was really cool to watch! Lynn never really paid any attention to when people shifted; not enough as he was now anyways.
    "That was cool!"
Alright he was going to try that. He mimic all of Henghai movements, the breathing and everything but he got nothing which made him slightly irritated but he just kept smiling.

    Actually....
Lynn thought about something and then he frowned again. "I never fully thought about it but...." and in a few moments Lynn made themselve look more feminine. He didn't fully shift into being completely female as he was testing something.
"See that? I can do this but not shift into an animal. It just happens when I think about it. Why is it different? I don't get it. It should work the same right?"

Agitated. He was very agitated but like a cheerful agitation.

Henghai knew that kind of agitation. The kind where you try to force yourself to look happy on the outside, but you were getting extremely annoyed on the inside. That's what he was seeing in Lynn, and it only made Henghai emphasize his calm exterior some more while also trying to empathize.

"Some shifting is more natural to people. How long have you been able to change your sex, and do you remember how it was when you first learned how to? You might be able to pinpoint where you used to have trouble and try to improve it this time.

"Confidence may be another factor. You're more confident in your sex-shifting ability than your animal-shifting. Which makes sense, you've been doing this for some time, but right now, you're letting yourself lose your cool."
