Levina returned back to her comfort zone and Cosette let her. Levina had already showed a lot of sides of herself that she probably didn't want to show and Cosette was more than happy with that. So, her expression didn't change as she nodded and absently took another muffin.
"Quite well, actually. This morning was pleasant, I took a small jog before work and collected a small bouquet of wild flowers for my apartment."
Cosette explained with a subdued cheery voice.
"Incidents? Ah, no, not any as bad as what you witnessed. As I explained, people are usually quite understanding about rejection."
Cosette said, her smile turning sheepish. She got hit on at least once every few days, to some extent. Usually it was whistles or catcalls, and those happened along the road Cosette took to and back from work. It passed by near the Strip. Cosette didn't like it, but it was an unfortunate truth someone who looked like her had to accept. People would never stop looking at her like, well, like she was just an object. Good people didn't, but he world didn't only have good people.
Levina scowled when she mentioned she went for a run before work. She couldn't imagine spending that kind of energy before the day had even really started. To be fair, Levina dealt with energy a little different than most people. She couldn't force herself to keep going.
"Ew. You run before work? How do you make it through the day?"
It had been a long while since she knew what it had been like to be able to rest by merely sitting around. Maybe she just worked too hard as well? It wasn't like she was about to change what she did. She had put in too much work to get where she was to just stop.
"It's good that you haven't been bothered in that way again lately. I would hate to have to make another example out of someone.
Her voice was very serious. For some reason she didn't like thinking of anyone doing that to Cosette. What was the attachment, and why couldn't she shake it?
Levina's reaction to Cosette's jog made the swan maiden laugh, and she delicately covered her mouth as she laughed to herself for a bit.
"It's rather invigorating, actually. Wakes me up nicely and keeps me in shape. And I rarely run, I mainly jog and walk. Barely break a sweat."
Cosette further explained and took a bite from her muffin, careful not to spill any crumbs on her shirt. But she did miss the frosting that got stuck on her nose.
Oh dear, Cosette wanted to talk Levina out of this mentality that she needed to "punish" those that approached Cosette. But she also had a feeling that Levina was much too stubborn for her to do that.
"Example for whom? The ones after whoever you decided to...make an example of wouldn't know about it."
Cosette asked with a small, hesitant smile.
"Sounds like a whole lot of wasted energy and an earlier end to the day."
Levina didn't need to do anything to keep in shape. She was actually relatively sure she couldn't change anything about her physique in any way. Not like she would want to.
While correct that the ones came after wouldn't know what happened, word would spread. It always did. And when a new person that didn't know tried, they had to be put in place too.
"Everyone had their place. Some just have to be shown. Plus nothing ever changes by sitting idly by. If I wouldn't have been righ to that person the other day, think what they might have done. Then think what they might have done in the future to someone else."
Thinking Cosette might be dismissive if the hypothetical was against herself, Levina figured she could get her thinking about someone else and care more that way.
"That wasted energy allows me to eat this."
Cosette remarked sheepishly and chuckled, lifting the muffin that was still left in her hand. She gained weight relatively easily, and was naturally bit pudgy. Many people said she looked "soft".
Levina had a point, and was in the right by approaching the subject from someone else's point of view. Cosette immediately felt her stomach convulse slightly from anxiety and even anger, when she thought about some other person in the position she had been. Her expression turned concerned. But...
"I don't know. I'm not sure if I was in serious danger. I understand that you have to be firmer with some people, or even bit rough, but there shouldn't be need for violence..."
Cosette's voice gradually got quieter as she spoke, and she lowered her eyes on the cupcake in her hand.
Levina looked at the muffin curiously. Then she remembered she wasn't like most people. She shrugged slightly and chuckled. At least she could enjoy anything she wanted without thought. Granted, she did have to make sure she took in enough needed vitamins as well still.
"Well I guess that's the benefit for you then."
She could tell Cosette saw her point for a moment before she almost argued herself back to where she had been. The lowering of her voice told Levina she still wasn't sure.
"You might not of been that time with them. But you definitely are NOT the next time with them. Because there won't be a next time now. Plus they will think about what happened before they try that with anyone else."
Cosette knew that Levina had a point, but she also knew that Levina's methods could've been better. A point could go across without the need for violence. But Cosette didn't want to argue, it made her anxious, so she merely lowered her eyes and nodded.
"I suppose you're right..."
Cosette said uncertainly, and took a small bite out of her muffin. She had lost some of her appetite, hee stomach was tight with anxiety.
Levina saw how Cosette's expression dropped. She sighed a little before blinking a couple times, not believing what she was about to say. It went against everything she was and how she had gotten by to this point.
"Ok look. Maybe.... maybe I could have been a little less.... forceful. And maybe the point would still have been made. Maybe."
She felt better adding in all the maybes and hoped Cosette picked up on how she was trying. This was extremely new to her. It had only ever been one person in her life at a time that directed her how to act, now there seemed to be two. Mathos and Cosette. Without Mathos here, something pulled Levina towards Cosette.
Cosette was surprised as well when Levina suddenly compromised in her statement, and she looked at Levina with widened eyes. Levina had seemed like such a headstrong person, and she was. It was clear in how it seemed to be hard for her to admit she was in the wrong even a bit, with all the maybes she slipped into the sentence. But she was trying, and she was doing it for Cosette, which made the swan maiden practically glow as she smiled at Levina.
"Maybe that is so. Perhaps in the future we will see."
Cosette answered, he tone gentle and appreciative as not to make Levina try and debate this topic more. Cosette tried to express that she was truly touched that Levina's had tried to see her point of view.
"Though I truly hope neither I nor you will have to be in such a situation in the future."
Cosette added, because she really didn't want the scene during which they had met to repeat itself. Cosette sadly knew that it very well might to some extent, at least in her part. Cosette would never be able to shed the curse she'd been shouldered with...
"Well I've already accepted it's going to happen to me. It's what happens when you are attractive. So I've also accepted I'm going to have to deal with it how I see fit."
Levina spoke plainly not wanting to make Cosette further uncomfortable. She wasn't normally concerned with others but Cosette seemed to genuinely care about Levina and it was something new she wasn't used to yet.
A smile came on her face as she decided to change the subject again. Trying to steer it away from violence.
