Sweetpea was heading out to the free computer area of the Academy, wanting to spend some time online learning about this amazing place they'd become a citizen of. But they walked slowly, not focusing on getting there as quickly as possible but rather strolling leisurely and exploring the Academy. They were more comfortable on the grounds now, even though their anxiety was ever present; despite their growth, their adaptive nature conflicted with their apparant PTSD.

The other NEK0s Sweetpea had met were great so far. And Helmut-sama... Was Helmut-sama. But still, they thought back to their sisters... They knew that they were all dead. And yet whenever they met another NEK0 they hoped...

As they wandered the halls Sweetpea reflected on these various emotions they were feeling, unsure of what to make of them yet finding that they seemed to feel better when they contemplated things, always coming out of it feeling a little older. They had been told that NEK0 develop quickly in maturity, so it wasn't surprising.

Daring couldn't go anywhere without a nurse pushing their chair, and Daring hated that feeling of having to rely on others to do anything. They had been forced to that in their previous life, when that first bastard of an owner had cut Daring's limbs off. And then that crazy asshole doll freak had stripped Daring the last of their freedom and had made them a living object, forcing them to reside in hell on Earth. So yes, to say Daring looked grumpy as they were pushed along the corridors was an understatement of the millenia. Daring was smart, they knew they didn't have the strength to push their own body weight, but that didn't mean they weren't going to protest to this humiliation.

Daring earned some looks from the people that walked past them and their nurse, but Daring didn't pay any particular mind to any of them. Fuck them all for all Daring cared. Their tail was neatly folded across their lap, swaying irritatedly, and Daring's ears were twitching from stress and agitation. They were always scared, always agitated, but it only showed as anger outside.
The nurse was on her way to returning Daring to the hospital, they still had their physical therapy to do today. And Daring was more than okay with that, doing the therapy meant taking steps closer to finally being independent and free. No more relying on people, no more feeling like Daring was in a glass cage. That thought alone was able to bring a feeling that kind of resembled joy to their mind.

These thoughts swirled in Daring's head when a familiar figure walked by. And it took Daring a moment to realize that familiarity, and why it was so. Daring turned their head to look behind them so fast their nurse got startled. But Daring didn't care. The back they were staring at right now was so painfully familiar. Daring knew that back. It couldn't be, could it? Was it...
    "Sekitan?"
Daring's voice wasn't all that loud, they were too in disbelief to raise it. Their mind was filled with hope and fear. What if it was Sekitan? Sekitan was alive! But what if it wasn't? That'd mean Sekitan was dead, or worse, still enslaved. What if it was Sekitan but they didn't even want to see Daring? Want to see a reminder of the life they both had only recently led. Daring had thought about their "siblings" many times after being separated from them. Missing them, being worried about them, hating them, loving them, every emotion between sky and earth. But now, being faced with the possibility of actually seeing Sekitan again, Daring was just...
    Scared.

Sweetpea was lost in their own thoughts and hardly noticed the person in the wheelchair being pushed by them. There eyes were fixed on the ground, ruminating on their past and wondering about what the future held for them. It all already seemed like it had happened so long ago... it felt like they'd been on this Island for years, though it had only been a few months. But they felt different. Things were...different.

    Then they heard it.

    Their.

    Name.

Sweetpea froze. That voice, that quiet voice... it was familiar, yet different in a way that made it sound all too surreal. Their dark ears twitched on top of their head and slowly, slowly, they turned to look at the source of that quiet voice.

They stared at what looked like a stranger. Yet it wasn't a stranger. It was...

"B..Blanc?" they whispered, in utter disbelief. This wasn't real. It couldn't be real. They avoided sleeping as much as they could, their dreams always seeming to return to dark memories of their sisters. Was this a dream too? A good dream?

They didn't want to wake up.

"Is that really you?" they continued in Japanese, taking a shaky step towards Blanc. Their eyes burned but the tears didn't come, not yet. They had to hear it. They had to hear their voice again, had to hear them say it was true, that they were...Blanc.

Sweetpea held their breath, as if afraid that breathing would wake them up from this wonderful but cruel dream.

Daring was already turning away, when Sweetpea looked back. And Daring was already facing forward, ready to leave this false hope behind, when they heard their old name, that cursed name. But it was said with a voice that was full of memories, with a voice that for a moment eased the pain Daring constantly felt. Daring turned back, and now looked Sekitan in the eyes, and there was no doubt. It was them. It was Daring's sibling. Speaking to them in their native tongue and that voice. And when Daring heard the tears in Sekitan's eyes and could almost sense them behind Sekitan's eyes they choked up and tears also appeared in Daring's eyes. This startled the very confused nurse, who had never seen Daring cry or even get close to crying.
    "It's me."
Daring said back in Japanese with a shivering voice, that was now stripped of the usual edge of resentment it usually had.

All while this was happening Daring's nurse had turned their wheelchair around, and was kind of awkwardly following the situation, looking for the right moment to ask how the two knew each other, and if they wanted to move somewhere more private. But interrupting this moment just felt wrong, so the nurse waited.

If Sweetpea had remembered their first interaction with Kon, they would have hesitated to move. But as soon as that trembling voice spoke, something inside of them broke, and they sank to their knees and wrapped their arms around Blanc's waist, nuzzling their cheek into Blanc's lap as their shoulders shook with silent sobs. The utter relief that washed over them was enough that if they'd stood for a moment longer they very well may have fainted.

Sweetpea held their sister, making small mewling sounds of happiness as the tears spilled down their cheeks. They held her, careful not to be tight but unable to keep themself from squeezing her small frame as they cried out "I can't believe it, I can't, oh Blanc--!" They smiled up at her through their tears, shaking their head. This was a dream, it had to be a dream, but it was a wonderful dream. "I don't care if I'm dreaming, I'm just happy you're here..."

The painful memories were there, fresh and raw, but even more powerful was seeing one of the few sources of comfort Sweetpea had held dear in those dark days.

They didn't ask where Blanc had been. There was no need to know. They both knew that wherever either had been, it had been hell.

Sweetpea made soft purring sounds that only occassionally broke to stifle a sob. "I've missed you so much..."

Sekitan was the first one to move, since Daring was frozen to place in their chair. This moment was one they had seen in both their dreams and nightmares, and Daring was so afraid. Afraid that if they moved a muscle this fragile moment would break and disappear and become nothing. So when Sekitan was the one to break and sink down to their knees Daring first stiffened, as their sibling's arm wrapped around their waist. It hurt, Daring's legs hurt, and so did Sekitan's tight grip. And that was the thing that finally made Dsring break too. It hurt, so this wasn't a dream. It hurt, so Sekitan was really here. Tears began slowly falling from Daring eyes and they fell in Sekitan's hair and back, as Daring bent forward and awkwardly tried to hug their sibling back.

The feeling of nausea from being called by their old name was a small thing alongside the massive relief and joy Daring was feeling at this moment. They couldn't even answer Sekitan, Daring merely shook their head, a grimace on their face as they struggled to keep their sobs silent. But when Sekitan looked up at Daring, thinking this was a dream, they couldn't help but let out a small shaky, kind of hysteric laugh. Daring reached forward and weakly pinched Sekitan's ear. Something they had did to their sibling during their times together, when Sekitan had woken up from a bad dream and had needed confirmation that they were awake.
"I don't see dreams as nice as this anymore. I'm really here."
Daring said, and a natural small smile was on their face.

Now Daring moved, and they stood up from their chair, pulling Sekitan along with them. Who cared if it hurt? Sekitan was here, Daring was here, they were both alive and here and together and nothing else mattered. Daring pulled Sekitan into an embrace as tight as they could manage, which wasn't that tight. But just tight enough for Daring to clearly feel Sekitan was there, and they were shaking as the tears kept on falling.
    "I-I...I had given up, I..."
Daring couldn't go on, and a short gasp disrupted their words. They had given up on ever seeing Sekitan again. Daring had been about to kill themselves just before they had been saved. But now, for the first time in long long time, Daring was happy to be alive.

"I'm so sorry to interrupt this moment, but would you two want to move somewhere more private? To properly catch up."
The nurse finally spoke up, their voice kind and calm. From Daring they earned a tear-soaked glare, which was much less intimidating than Daring's glares usually were. But Daring did agree, people were staring at the two NEK0s, hugging and crying in the middle of a hallway. And if Daring kept standing for much longer the tears they were shedding would turn into part tears of pain and they didn't want to sully their tears of joy with that.

Sweetpea was in bliss as Blanc pinched their ear so casually, the sensation enough to realize that, oh, yes, this wasn't a dream. They blinked rapidly in disbelief as they both stood to embrace, their mind still not fully grasping that this was in fact Blanc and that this was actually reality.

They held on to Blanc desperately, not wanting to let go, their trembling lips parting to speak -- but then they were interrupted.

Sweetpea quite suddenly realized that there were other people here. That have never happened in a dream before. They stared at the nurse in surprise before their mind finally caught up.

    This wasn't a dream.

    This was real.

    They were stunned.

"R-Right," they said, unable to keep their voice from quaking as they rubbed their wet cheeks with the palm of their hand. They looked back to Blanc, not wanting to tear their eyes away from her for even a single moment, and then they realized -- Blanc was standing.

The last time they'd seen Blanc, she had been...

Sweetpea didn't want to even think about it.

Realizing that Blanc very likely needed to wheelchair, Sweetpea reached for them and gently tried to guide them down to their seat, smiling gently through their tears of joy. She wasn't in the school uniform... perhaps she wasn't a student here yet.

"Do you... would you..." Sweetpea laughed shakily at themselves, still just overwhelmed with emotion that made it difficult to speak. "I have a dorm here... do you want to...?"

The unspoken words of an invitation didn't need to be said. Sweetpea's hand twitched as they thought to reach and squeeze Blanc's but then they remembered her condition and instead clasped their own hands together, wanting oh so badly to touch her and feel her and confirm she was alive but knowing that if they did they would fall apart again.

Right now Daring didn't really care at all if the whole world watched them weep. Daring had no reason to take into account how these strangers felt. But they also knew that Sekitan probably cared, at least more than Daring did, and that's why they nodded when the nurse suggested they moved somewhere else. For Sekitan's sake.

Sekitan attempted to get Daring back to their wheelchair, and although Daring did comply there was a small amused smile on their face and Daring reached up to carefully ruffle Sekitan's hair.
"You're 10 years too early to be taking care of me."
Daring said with a short, sob-like laugh, feeling a faint connection to their old self, who had taken care of their siblings and had tried to become a kind of mother figure for them. Daring never knew if they succeeded in that, but even though they could only feel the softness of Sekitan's hair on their fingertips Daring felt...right.

    "A dorm sounds good."
Daring said, looking back at the nurse who nodded as an answer. The nurse wasn't about to talk back and let Daring miss out on this reunion when they were showing more emotion that they had shown since arriving on the island. But despite showing so much emotion Daring was trying to stay the more composed one, since Sekitan was so clearly overwhelmed and Daring felt the urge to take care of them, to hold them in their arms and cradle Sekitan until they both fell asleep.
"Show the way, quickly. I want to talk to you a lot more."
Daring looked up at Sekitan and there was slight desperation in their eyes. Daring wanted, no, needed to know what had happened to Sekitan after they had been separated. And Daring would let Sekitan know about what they had been through, even if it hurt Daring to tell it all.
