It was his lunch break, and as usual, Carmin ended up heading out to find somewhere to read. It was sunny out, so he chose the courtyard today. After the events with the long night, he'd been trying to stay in the sun as much as possible. With winter rapidly approaching, there was no telling how much longer he'd have the privilege of reading outside too.

He stopped at the first unoccupied bench, tossed his backpack up and then did the same with his body. Then he rummaged around inside and pulled out a book. He started reading, and continued contently for the next few minutes, until the book ended. At that point, he didn't really have anything else to do. So, he just sat there, stared at the blank page at the end of his book and pretended he was reading. It would take too long to go to the library and take out another book and then come back, so there wasn't much else to do in his eyes.

It was a little after noon and Celeste was making her way across the courtyard when she spotted Carmin. She was on her way to town to pick up a few fresh ingredients for tomorrow's class. The class could use dried herbs and there was probably enough butter, but Celeste liked to make sure that she was prepared for anything.

"Carmin?" Celeste said, greeting him with a warm smile as she approached the bench. "How are you doing today? Taking in the warm sun?" she asked her student, glad to see him. She had been meaning to check up on him since the incident with Ferret, but with all the sudden craziness she had not found the time.

Carmin didn't notice Celeste until she called out his name. He didn't recognize the voice either, not until he looked up from the blank paper to see her. He stared back at her blankly for just a tad too long before actually giving an answer.

"I'm fine, and yeah I suppose." He wasn't exactly sure how to talk with a teacher outside of class, it was honestly a little weird in his head. "Um, how... are you?"

"I am well, thank you for asking," Celeste answered politely as she took a seat on the bench next to Carmin, though she kept herself at a comfortable distance, not wanting to crowd or make Carmin too uncomfortable.

"So how are you faring with your classes?" she asked Carmin as she looked up at the sky, shielding her eyes from the sun with her hand when a bird flew past them overhead.

"Have you had any more problems with Ferret?" she added as she put her hand down and looked at her student, genuinely interested in their well being.

Carmin watched as Celeste took a seat next to him. It seemed like this conversation wasn't going to be as short as he had originally anticipated. It wasn't like he was doing anything else worthwhile though. In fact, this might've been better than staring at the blank page.

When asked about his classes, Carmin actually had good things to say. "Classes are going good. Just need to look things over at night and everything usually makes sense." Having that extra time where most people slept was actually useful sometimes.

Then there was the question concerning Ferret. It wasn't so easy to answer that one. Well it wouldn't have been, had he told her the truth. "Um, yeah, yeah... Everything is good with Ferret, we get along fine now."

Hearing that Carmin and Ferret got along fine now, made Celeste raise an eyebrow in surprise. Not that she wasn't happy to hear that, she just found it rather unbelievable considering how openly they had expressed their disapproval of Carmin.

"That is good to hear," Celeste said. "Then you don't mind if I pair you two up again?" she inquired. "Their new partner doesn't quite seem to get along with her," she said as she was reminded of how Ferret's new partner had complained a few times to Celeste about their rudeness and uncooperativeness.

Without even thinking, when Celeste mentioned pairing him back up with Ferret, Carmin's mouth moved on its own. "No!" Celeste got him, whether it was intentional or not. "I- well it's just... It's not that we don't get along, it's just that..." Carmin was struggling to find a lie to fix his first lie but still prevent him from getting paired back up with Ferret. Finally he just weighed what was worse, getting caught for lying initially or working with Ferret. A quick decision to say the least. "We don't get along. I'm sorry."

"Oh, I thought you and..." Celeste said a little confused, her voice trailing off as she studied Carmin for a second, quietly debating with herself what to say. She wasn't too overly surprised by their admission, though it did worry her that Carmin felt they couldn't speak their mind.

"You know Carmin... You can say no to things," Celeste said finally as she turned her body a fraction so she could address Carmin properly.

"Ferret has a very difficult personality, and I would not blame you for not wanting to be friends with them," she said, being quite open and honest with them.

"I know." Carmin had difficulty talking about this stuff, it was just harder to talk about it than to forget about it. But now he was at least putting an effort into opening up. "I'm not so sure it was entirely Ferret's fault." He was looking down at the ground, and his voice was kind of quiet, almost at a mumble. He'd been thinking about this for a while and it had started eating at him recently.

Celeste wasn't so sure she believed that Carmin was partially at fault. However, she knew better than to trivialize a person's feelings, especially her students.

"Why do you say that?" she asked Carmin, encouraging them to elaborate on why they felt that way.
