Sage was not weary at all, but it would be rude to keep going simply because she had better endurance than Kal. She slowed down to a walk with Kal. "I agree. I can see you're hurting in your side too. We might need to find somewhere to sit."

She was already looking around for a bench to seat themselves at. There were several benches on the other side of the track. Weren't those used for spectators during the sports this school held? Looked like they would be walking for a bit before getting there.

"I don't have a job here. My work revolves around getting back home. Back home, my work was killing monsters on our way to saving the princess. Something I definitely can't do here."

Kalvin heaved a big breath when they finally reached the benches. He slowly took a seat and leaned back on his hand. He rested his stump against his aching side, pressing onto it a little bit. The travel to Manta Carlos had taken some days and messed with his usual routine. Plus the jet lag placed him out of it too so he had a few days of cardio to catch up on. He glanced at Sage as she also took a seat. "Is that so?"

He didn't know much about what Sage really did. She was a protector and part of a group. If he thought about it, he could gather that she was something like a magical knight of some sorts. "Well, from what I've noticed, this place has it's own league of bad guys too. They might not be as big and bad as the monsters from your world but they need someone to stop them. Although, you might not need to kill them here... unless they're from the forest."

Speaking of, he vaguely remembered hearing rumors about a girl who woke up in the forest the day he got to Manta Carlos. He glanced at Sage again and squinted as he tried to remember what was said about that girl. "You don't happen to be the girl who got hurt in the forest, do you?"

Sage straightened out her clothing and sat down on the bench. Her cool expression and posture tensed when Kal guessed right who she was. "Yes, I was. I was extremely confused and overwhelmed, so I traveled to the place I felt most familiar in. The entire experience is very... difficult to remember." She could remember the events perfectly fine. That's precisely why it was difficult. The fear and confusion came back to her vividly, with the only sign being the noticeable furrow of her eyebrows.

"In any event, I'm done with hunting bad guys for now. It's the job of the police and scouts here. I would be an unwelcomed party doing what they call 'vigilante work.' I would be no use to my teammates if I was on the islets."

Kal provided a shrug. He could see that Sage felt uneasy with his question. Whether it's from the embarrassment of being the talk of the school, he can't tell. Not that he needed to know. That was only her business, as far as he knew. "Yeah, you're right. Besides... I reckon if you went down a vigilante's path, you and I would clash at some point in the future."

Kal grinned at Sage after saying that. "I'm looking to join an underground club myself. You'd be busting my ass if I wasn't already in one and you weren't already a vigilante."

That got a concerned look from Sage. She was certain that she misunderstood, as the last sentence confused her. "What is... an underground club? I'm sorry, are you admitting that you wish to partake in illegal activities?"

Kal looked at Sage with a serious expression and smirked. "Yea but if you tell anyone about it, you'll only get a denial from me," he said. Then he chuckled a little and waved his hand in the air between them like he was shooing a fly off. "I'm kidding, you know. I don't actually wish to partake in illegal activities. Maybe I just want to find an underground fight club right now. Or even a betting ring... I don't know, this island must have some sort of fun pastimes."

Sage's expression tensed until Kal revealed that he was joking. It took her a few seconds to relax and force a smile. Don't be a buzzkill, she repeated in her head.

"Aha... I should have realized that. Funny. I heard the arena has legal betting. Obvious from the name, it has fighting stuff too. I'm... uninterested in that sort of thing. It's all for entertainment, and I don't have any use for watching its private matches..." Sage looked down at the ground and put a finger to her lip. "Other than understanding the residents here better..."

Kal let his head incline to the side as he took note of what she said. The Arena. All right then. It was a good place to start as any to look for a place where he could spar with people. "There are private matches? Interesting." He echoed, raising an eyebrow. He glanced at her and figured he needed to change the subject before she actually did think he took his interest seriously. "So, other than running around the track, what do you like to do in your spare time? I imagine you're part of a club or some kind of organization in the school."

"I do?" she asked. That sounded like a neutral statement, but being in a club is apparently a good thing for students to do. It might have been a compliment? "I'm only in the Other Earths club. I'm working with them to get back home. Other than that, I'm working alone, training, or with my friends."

Her eyes widened and she looked around. "How long have I been out? I still have homework to do, and I can't miss a day of researching how to leave."

"I see," Kal mumbled. He remembered being part of a club in school. Although, in his school it was more of a sports team rather than a club. He went a little quiet as he recalled the out-of-town tournaments that usually required him and his team to sleep at a hotel. Sometimes they would rent a motel and all huddle in it when the funds were low.

When Sage spoke, Kal checked the sky. He really couldn't say the time but if he had to guess, they would've been talking for about half an hour already. "I think we've been chatting for... 30 minutes, give or take," he guessed. If Sage had to go, then that was just as well because he had to get going soon too. He was only aiming to get a half hour of jogging everyday anyway.
