"Brody?"

Her voice sounded tinny, reverberating from the tiny flip-phone speaker. She had her head, with its enormous horns, tilted back across the couch in the Student Lounge, splayed out like some kind of starfish.

It hadn't even been two days after the relocation from Dark Crystal, and already this school was worse - confusing and difficult to navigate, unfamiliar and frankly just boring and weird. Someone had switched around all her friends' numbers or given them to someone else, and now whenever she would text them no one would reply. Which, actually - a lot of her friends weren't picking up, either. So she kinda hoped this was still Brody's number. After all, she did have it before everything went all weird, so it would have made sense if it were the same number. For once.

"This is Brody, right?"

Brody honestly felt like he was stuck in some weird spinoff of Back To The Future except he was no Marty McFly and he sure as heck did not know a Doc Brown. It's been twelve years that he has been frozen in time but he didn't feel like twelve years have passed. It was like he was in some weird time limbo. Things just been really fucking weird for Brody.

It was even more weird that he wasn't able to get into contact with his parents. He did ask to keep the same number he had before just in case someone remembered it and decided to call. Whiiich is why he was quick to answer the phone when he did get a ring.
The voice he heard wasn't the voice he wanted to hear but it was one he recognize. "Oh shit. Chris? Yeah it's me Brody."

"Holy shit. Finally, ONE of you guys picks up. I've been calling up people but no one answers. It's like Back To The Future all over again." Chris leaned back in her seat, smiling. "Anyway, that isn't why I called. I'm bored with this new relocation thing. Wanna meet up and go to your parents' rink? I'm in the mood for a skate around."

It was always one of her go-to's - Brody's parents owned a skating rink somewhere in town. She didn't quite remember what was around it since she hadn't been paying attention last time, but she liked to go there just to let off some steam. Plus, competing with one of her friends was really fun.

Brody haven't talked much to anyone since he has been unfrozen, mostly because everyone he knew was trying deal with the fact they got frozen in time. So him being able to hear Chris's voice was a bit of a relief. Chris wasn't someone he would consider his best friend but she was a bit up there on the friend's list compared to a lot of other students at DCA.....well former students of DCA.

"I asked if I could keep my old number. Some of us probably got new numbers and some people might still be being examined, questioned, or whatever." Brody didn't sound extremely enthusiastic about anything he just said.
His tone of voice quickly changed when Chris brought up the grand idea of going to his families skate rink.
Why didn't he think of that earlier? "So you are bored already? Well that makes sense. Us DCA students being forced to relocate and join our literal boring school rivals isn't exactly a fun thing." He was speaking with an extreme amount of sass.

"But anyway! Where are you at? I'm currently roaming around like a lost kitty."

"Oh yeah. That's still happening. Explains why some of them aren't picking up." She noted Brody's disinterested tone. Not as anything, particularly, just as something interesting.

"Exactly. I mean, couldn't they have relocated literally anywhere else than this loser school?" She lifted herself off of the couch, chuckling at the amount of sass that was in his tone, and stretched up. "It's no wonder I wanna let off some steam. I'm in the student lounge. You close?"

"I figured they just build a new school or something once everything is clear." Which he hoped they did but the chances of that actually happening was very slim.
Well Chris was inside the school's campus which was the opposite direction he was planning to go.

"Oh, just meet me at the front entrance then. I will be chilling there and it won't be too hard to miss me." Which was true because Brody probably stuck out a lot due to his appearance. He also stuck out like a sore thumb because he was wearing his DCA letterman jacket instead of any SA stuff.
The jacket he would keep wearing until someone tells him to take it off.

She nodded, though there was no one to see it. "Yeah, exactly. It's not that dangerous. I used to have to deal with drunk satyrs. Tell me there's something more dangerous than a goat guy coming at you with an ancient 40." Just the thought made her laugh.

"Obviously. You stick out like a broken thumb, dude." He stuck out. More than she stuck out - who else could claim they had a snake for a tail?

Okay, bad example.

"I just need to grab my allowance. Five bucks says I'm there in fifteen flat."

"Uh no. If I was a thumb I would be a strong and chiseled thumb." Brody quickly stated before a sudden moment of silence. Yeah, he just realized what he just said was dumb. "You know what I mean. I'd be the best looking thumb out there."

"I don't disagree with you being here in fifteen minutes. Just hurry up nerd." Brody laughed as he hung up the phone. He was going to wait around at what he assumed was the front entrance to the school campus. When Chris arrived he would just be posted up like some Mr. Cool guy against a pole.

A moment of silence. Her shoulders shook. Her antlers bowed. Her face broke into a huge, mischievous grin, and the laughter that came bubbling out was loud and clear.

"Later, Thumb Boy." Oh boy, he was not going to live that one down. She ended the call still laughing.

-
After grabbing her wallet, she strode purposefully out of the building, though she had to duck a few times to avoid her antlers catching on stuff. Her cloven hooves clicked first on the tile, then on the pavement as she walked out. The purple long-sleeve she sported was part of her DCA uniform - no way she was going to wear that stupid Starlight one. It wasn't even that warm. Fall leaves fluttered around her.

Chris spotted Brody and raised her arm a bit in greeting. "THUMB BOY! OVER HERE!"
