Blade listened to Jude talk about the new life experience they had on this Earth. It was strange to hear Jude using the real names of her teammates, but again, she wondered...was the Defiant no longer a thing?
Were they no longer fighting crime?
"Well, it... That's nice," she said awkwardly. She'd always been a better listener than a talker. "Are you sure you can trust these people, though?"
He should have seen that coming, shouldn't he? Just because he'd been adjusting to civilian life didn't mean anyone else could.
"Well," Jude pointed out. "If you can trust me, you can trust Officer Genovese. We're technically the same person, and he's... well, he's a lot like me. You'll like him, I think."
He found that most people who liked him also liked Officer Genovese, and vice versa. The only exception were people who took issue with his job, which tended to be thankfully few.
"Roa's nice too. He's helped us a lot - heals our scrapes even if he's really angry while doing so. Honestly? Most people are pretty nice here, and..." Jude paused, glancing briefly at Blade.
"Well, since Giltenn's no longer locked down, I've started getting some more abilities. I can pick up other people's powers now, which makes it a lot easier to trust people aren't using some kind of mind control on you."
Blade had a hard time believing a cop could be a good guy. She made a bit of a face, expressing her uneasiness, but didn't say any words of protest. She trusted Jude. That's what mattered. And if they were the same person... who knows.
"That's useful," she said, nodding. "We can use that next time we end up fighting someone we don't know."
Fighting. Jude opened his mouth to say we don't have to fight anything, and then closed it. No, it wasn't going to work. Not when he'd very nearly just been killed. Not when he'd just killed two people.
"Travis--Kaiju--He's got a human form now. He's still mostly a lizard, but it's weird seeing him looking like a human." He'd always known Travis was human, but it felt different actually seeing it.
"They'll all be really happy you're here. We've got the school year starting tomorrow, but I figure you probably want to sleep anyway. So we can get home, get you settled in, and then you can pass out while I'm in class. Or maybe Officer Genovese can take you around to get you registered."
At the very least this time Jude realized that no, that probably wasn't going to fly, and glanced over to Blade.
"We're all back to going to school. The school is... kind of wild, honestly."
School was going to be a tough sell. He could tell. Well, even before that, he could just know. Blade wasn't the kind of person who wanted to settle down and start writing tests. She was going to have to be lead to it over time, he thought.
"They'll give you tours and things," Jude explained as he drove. "They're super accommodating. They'll catch you up and make sure your education's in order. And it's a clean slate. The whole island is like that. everyone who comes here has whatever they did before wiped clean. There's people on the island who were... their universes equivalent of super villains. Gods. Demons. The whole thing."
