Oh dear. Maybe she was in over her head? Well, probably, only she was also doing just fine in the grand scheme of things. She hadn't been killed. She'd only used one jump. Who knew how many jumps she even had left? Two, maybe three--plenty of time to find a world that wasn't going to drop her in the middle of an ongoing battle.

What little the woman--Ayr--said still painted a pretty clear picture, along with the bodies on the floor. Knife was firmly desensitized to corpses, sparing them little more than a glance.

"So, your people... the colored skinned people--are they fighting humans?" Because that seemed to be the picture, which made her wonder why this one was even willing to ally with Knife.

    Who was, you know, human.

"We don't need to get to the east gate, just some place safe. So I guess if the east gate is safe, we can go there. Otherwise we can just bunker down."

Ayrskra began looting the bodies of the dead. There was no sense in leaving them with their belongings. Gold, weapons, and what little other valuables they had that could be sold all went into a sack.

The confusion in Knife's voice, it sounded genuine. Which was puzzling to the Djinn, as it had been all she ever knew.
"Gods fight. Grow weary. Create humans. Create Djinn. Djinn and humans fight. It is life."

The fact that this woman knew nothing about the ways of the world was both concerning and comforting, in a way. On the one hand, it begged so many questions. Where was she from that she could not know any of this, for starters. On the other, it meant Knife held no natural animosity towards her. And that increased both their chances of survival.

"No East Gate?" She pondered this. They could theoretically stay in this building then, if that were the case. They might need more supplies though. She struggled to combine the words she had learned already, to refer to the two of them as a unit. "You, I need? Water? Food?"

Knife was no stranger to looting--in another context she might have joined in--but she was deeply wary of both touching the strange dead creatures, and slightly worried she might upset her sword wielding momentary ally.

"So you're... a genie?" A probably very stupid thing to say, but Knife had no way of knowing that. "Like from Aladdin?"

That was really the extent of her knowledge about genies. Really, it was a miracle she even knew a djinn was a genie.

"This is all weird to me," Knife said with a sigh. "But I already have some supplies. I've got food and water in my bag, so it's just whatever you want." Which was... who knew what. What did genies need to live? Air? Wishes? Who even knew.

Knife didn't have the patience to wait anymore, and she reached down, flipping the indicator over.

Five minutes. Maybe ten at the most. And then she'd be gone, hopefully before a battle picked up. In theory she could teleport if there were trouble--it was second nature to her--but she was deeply wary of teleporting while supercharged. There was no telling if it would even work, or if it'd tear her into another dimension by sheer accident.

Ayrskra watched as Knife checked the blinking object. It was odd, but she didn't question it. Instead she focused on the words the woman had spoken.
    "Genie? Aladdin? I understand not."

Ayrskra scrunched up her face and shrugged. She could learn these words later. Supplies were more important now. The soldier she had looted had water skins on them. Mostly half empty, but enough to get by for a few days perhaps. Food was scarce, and mostly the hard, long lasting breads and jerky that they carried when out in the field. Both of these were fine.

"You, I wait then. Leave when flickering box ready?"

How could she explain what Aladdin was? Even though logic told Knife not to try, she did anyway--it was as good a way as any to fill time.

"We leave when the box is ready, yeah." She wasn't going to commit to any time frame, but it wouldn't be long, and that was what mattered, right?

"Aladdin's a Disney movie set in Arabia about a boy who finds a genie trapped in a lamp that will grant him three wishes, and he uses the first two to help himself but then he learns humility or something so he uses the last wish to free the genie rather than getting what he really wanted, but the Genie's a good guy so he helps him out."

Or something. Knife hadn't seen the movie in a long, long time, and her memory wasn't the best. She'd liked it as a kid though, and didn't that count?

Ayrskra's jaw fell slack and she canted her head at Knife. The woman was talking like someone whose brain had been cooked by the sun.
    "You touched in head?"

She continued tying her plundered provisions into her bag. This woman knew nothing about how things worked. No one would free a djinn with a wish. And so few? None of it made sense.
"All wrong. Thirteen," she paused, that same sick feeling in her stomach, "w-wish, no three. Last wish always free djinn. Gift from gods to no slave."
